For many years aircraft operators have been seeking to rationalise the greases used on aircraft and to reduce the number of different greases in their inventories. Recently Boeing began research on a new, general purpose, corrosion-inhibiting grease. The aim was for a non-clay based grease that would provide longer life for components and mechanisms and possess improved wear and corrosion resistance. AeroShell Grease 5 Wheel Bearing and Engine Accessory Grease combines high load-carrying ability with excellent resistance to water and high temperatures.
AeroShell Grease 6 is a general purpose airframe grease for use in antifriction bearings and gearboxes, inhibited against oxidation/corrosion with good water resistance and low noise capability.
A general purpose grease, AeroShell Grease 6 is composed of a mineral oil thickened with Microgel, possessing good all-round properties within a limited range. The useful operating temperature of Grease 6 is -40°C to +121°C.
AeroShell Grease 7 satisfies nearly all the airframe grease requirements of turbine engined aircraft and also those of piston engined aircraft provided that seal incompatibility does not occur.
Grease 7 from AeroShell is an advanced multi-purpose aircraft grease, composed of a synthetic oil thickened with Microgel. Grease 7 possesses good load carrying ability over a wide temperature range and is inhibited against corrosion and has excellent resistance to water. The useful operating temperature range is-73°C to +149°C. Most civil aircraft manufacturers approve AeroShell Grease 7 as a general purpose grease either by brand name or by specification.
Aeroshell 100 is an oil designed for use during colder months and ideal for new piston aircraft engines. AeroShell 100 is a straight mineral oil (SAE 40) blended from from selected high viscosity index base oils.
AeroShell 100 does not contain any additives except for very small amounts of pour point depressant, which aids to improve fluidity at very low temperatures and an anti-oxidant. AeroShell 100is approved for all aviation piston engines of civil aircraft when the use of an oil not containing a dispersant additive is required. Aeroshell 100 oil should also be used during the break-in of a new aviation piston engine or those recently overhauled. Specially blended High Viscosity Index base oil in AeroShell Oil 100 is designed to provide effective protection to engine components compared to conventional mineral oils.
